Why we shouldn't fear our future of technology

Why we shouldn't fear our future of technology

I read an article called "Why we shouldn't fear where technology is headed" and it did in fact mention where it's headed, but why we should be optimistic, and positive about it. I strongly believe that we can use technology in the correct way, but we definitely need to be careful about it.

Dr. Nguyen used some personal experience that he had with a friend by the name of Riley, Riley had Cerebral Palsy, but learned how to drive a car with his mind. This was possible with developing some sort of brain machine interface, and a ton of perseverance. This was a huge step in the right direction for many kids with all kinds of disabilities. If we keep going in the right direction with positive technology then the world will be a much happier place in many different aspects.

We aren't really sure when new technology is coming out for sure, because you want to get it right the first time around, and it does take time and caution. I know for a fact that developers are coming up and coming out with new things each and everyday, whether it's little or big advancements.

If we aren't optimistic and positive about our future technology it'll all just go down the drain and be a complete waste. We need to create things that'll benefit most people if not everyone, so it's not a waste and so its more efficient and it's worth the money spent on creating it.

We need to have long-term vision that provides support for our upcoming technological advancements, but we also need to hone in on the current technology we have. One quote from the article "Maximize the positive from new technologies, for our digital future, Guterres urges" was "We, the international community, urgently need to broaden and deepen our engagement to ensure that we are making maximum use of digital technologies." This is basically saying we need to use the current technology we have to its full potential, and use more of it to continue to better the future of technology.

What kind of technology should we work on, well it mentioned in the second article I read that we need to work on Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Tools, Blockchain, and Robotics. We can put some of our focus into these topics, but this shouldn't be the first things we work on. With these categories, we can better our future, and make the world an easier and safer place.

  2. You were talking about how Dr.Nguyen had a friend who was able to drive a car even though he had Cerebral Palsy. My question would be are there advancements in technology that would allow Riley to be completely independent such as some sort of biomedical advancement or something of that nature or are there only advancements that can help him interact with inatimate objects and not actually help him by maybe helping his body overcome the cerebral palsy?

    1. I'm not totally positive on if there are any biomedical advancements that would allow Riley to be totally on his own, but possibly in the near future as we're getting better and better with solving problems. As of right now I think this is as far as we've gotten with a situation like this, but this is still huge, and scientists etc. are trying to come out with devices that will help.
